Message from the 2020/2021 Booster President
Hello CHS Band Families! What a year we have had. While the year did not go as we had hoped, it was a succesful year none the less, and that is because of the hard work and dedication of our students, and our parent volunteers.
While we had all hoped for a full marching season, it just was not in the cards this year, but things are looking good for next year and we are looking forward to putting on a great show in the Fall of 2021. We will be utilizing the show we had purchase for this year, The music of X, and Mr. Parrulli and our staff are working on plannnig that out now.
Even though we were unable to put on a show this year, we were able to perform at the games with a pep band. Thank you to all of the students who participated. We hope you enjoyed the experience.
The pandemic did not just affect our Marching Band, it affected the whole program. The band had to practice with students in both school and at home, we had 2 amazing outdoor concerts this year, and our Solo & Ensemble Festival and FBA Concert Band Performances were all online instead of in person. Our Rock Band class was able to do many concerts this year in the courtyard outside, entertaining the CHS students as well. Through it all we made the most of the situation and did our best. OUr concert Band was given a rating of Superior by the Florida Bandmaster's Association. Way to go Concert Band!
As for the Boosters, we were working as hard as ever to make things work. Because of the situation we chose not to charge any fees this year for Marching Band. This did limit our income, but we were able to make up for some of it through donations, sponsorships, fundraising and the amazing work of our Concession crew! The Concession Stand was run this year by the Manoly's and the Reitmeyers, and we had some addtional help through the playoffs from Roshanda Hayes. We were unable to cook anything this year, limited to pre-packaged foods, but that did not stop this crew. They got very creative and brought in a lot of money for the band. Because we had no costs this year for Marching, we will be going into next year with some money. Not as much as we used to, but more than we have had in a while, and definitely more than we thought at the beginning of the year. So a big thank you to all involved in our fundraising efforts.
Finally I would like to talk to you about volunteering. It takes a village to make Band happen. Most parents and students have no idea how much goes on behind the scenes until they are in it. From chaperoining to fundraising to planning events for the kids, the Boosters do a lot to give your kids the best possible program. With your help we will not only make the program better next year, but the more people who help the less everyone has to do. Therefore please consider signing up to help out next year. We will vote in a moment for next year's Board of Directors, but they are only the decision makers. We need all of you to help make it all happen. We need chaperones, concession workers, fundraisers, equipment truck drivers, student transporters and financial sponsors. The more that help the better our program will be. Please consider volunteering with the band.
Thank you all for the honor of serving as the Booster President this past year. As an alumnus of this program, it means the world to me to stay involved in the program and see the students improve every day. Thank you to Mr. Parrulli for your hard work and dedication to the students. I have never met a band director who cared more about his or her students, with the exception of our mentor and former band director Mr. Hayward.
Sincerely,
Wayne Brown
